Tuesday January 11 (PE)

Today students had a Fitness day. Students did a stair workout and then finished with agility ladders and sprints on the track.

Today students learned the rules to Volleyball and started playing volleyball games.

Wednesday December 8 (Health)

Starter #4 - "The Six Dietary Guidelines:
1.) Eat a variety of foods.
2.) Maintain a healthy weight
3.) Eat a low-fat diet.
4.) Try to eat as many fruits and vegetables as possible.
5.) Use moderate (small) amounts of sugar.
6.) Use as little sodium (salt) as possible."

3. Directions for Friday's Assignment - www.mypyramid.gov

Today we learned about the "Anatomy of MyPyramid", which is the USDA's new Food Guide Pyramid. We also learned about the five main food groups, what they consist of, and about serving sizes. It's important to not only make healthy food choices in our lives, but to realize the importance of daily physical activity as well.

We also went over the directions for our assignment that we will do in class on Friday. We are meeting in the Media Center and completing an assignment on the USDA's website: www.mypyramid.gov. It will be due in class that day (Friday Dec. 10th).

Take Away: Understand the Food Guide Pyramid and what the five main food groups are.

Students turned in their "Obesity in a Bottle" Drink Logs. Students were given this assignment last Tuesday - they were due today.

Today, students took a quiz on Carbohydrates, Proteins, and Fats - it was also due today.

2. Nutrients!

Today the students learned about Nutrients and what the six basic classes of nutrients are - Carbohydrates, Proteins, Fats, Vitamins, Minerals, and Water. Nutrients are "chemical substances in foods that furnish fuel for energy, provide materials needed for building and maintenance of body tissues, and/or supply substances that function in the regulation of the body process". Your body needs the right combination of nutrients to grow and work properly. These nutrients are the most important types of nutrients that the body gets from food.

Take Away: Nutrition is one of the keys to good health. It's important to understand what foods are good for our bodies and why they're good for us.

Homework - Continue documenting your bevergaes on your "Drink Log" - it will be due next Monday December 6th.
