Wednesday November 4 (Health)

What do you do to relieve stress?

Today, we started our unit on Stress Management. Obviously, we have many stressors in life. What we need to learn is how to handle those stressors and relieve them in healthy ways.

Health Notes
Definitions:
Stress - our body's response to change.
Stressor - anything that causes stress. These can be positive or negative.
Eustress - good stress (motivation, sports, performances, excitement, anticipation, adrenaline, anxious)
Distress - bad stress (affects physical, mental, and social health - depression, emotion, anxiety, adrenaline, pressure, fear, worry)

Effects of too much stress:
Physical - headaches, high blood pressure, reduces body's ability to fight infection.
Mental - anxious, moody, irritable, interfere with schoolwork, take away desire to have fun.
Social - yell at those around them, withdraw or back off from social contacts.

Take Away: Identify the stressors in our lives and the origin of those stressors.
