Monday December 14 (Health)

No Starter today.

Today, we talked about Food Labels. Students were given a green "New Food Labels Are Here!" packet to read over. A few keys things to remember from the packet are:
--According to the food label given on page one, although there are "90 calories" in one serving, there are two servings per container, so there is a total of 180 calories in the entire product.
--"Calorie Free", "Fat Free", "Sugar Free", etc. doesn't mean that the product is absolutely free of these things.
--When talking about sweeteners, it's probably a good idea to stick to things that are natural, like sugars.

Students need to make sure they read over the whole packet on their own and hang on to it in their notes. They will need the packet to study from for their upcoming health test.

Take Away: Be able to read a food label and understand its meaning and how it relates to your health.
*Continuous Learning* - Be able to identify the different parts of a food label and what they mean.

Homework -
1.) Complete and print your "MyPyramid" results - due on Wednesday December 16th.
2.) Purchase a heart rate monitor strap ($5.00) in the main office if you haven't already.
